What Critical, Major, and Minor Gaps Mean

Critical gaps are the most damaging. These are missing core required technologies or a significant mismatch in experience level. Missing the primary programming language of the role, or applying for a senior position with only two years of experience when five are required, creates a critical gap. Major gaps are meaningful but not disqualifying on their own. Missing supporting tools (a specific framework or platform that’s listed as preferred but not required), or having weak project depth with no real-world complexity, creates major gaps.
